LBPB1: The Parallax Vehicle!

Hello everyone!

We have a very special announcement to make. Today marks the start of our first contest; The Parallax Vehicle! I'm sure you must have lots of questions, so I'll try my best to explain it fully.


Ehrm, what exactly is 'Parallax'?

Parallax is an effect created when items in the distance appear to be moving at a slower rate than items up close, for example, when you look out of a car window and fields are crawling past at a snails pace but lamp-posts are speeding past. For more information, give this a read.

Ok, so what's the brief?

We want you to use this idea, topped with a tinge of infinate scrolling, to create a vehicle in-game, which appears to be moving. However, there is a catch. The vehicle cannot move, whether it's made out of light matter or anti-grav'ed to the spot, it must not move!

How is that possible?

Easily. It's a really useful effect used quite often, from story levels to community creations. We want to see your take on it. You could emit background pieces at a slower rate than others, but hey, we don't just want you to copy us!

What type of level should it be?

That is entirely up to you. You could create a level which incorporates parallax, whether it be only one vehicle inside a platformer, or you could create a series of different ones! Don't forget, we are looking for originality. This means if you do just make a vehicle, it may let you down.

What will we be judged on?

Three things:

1. Effectiveness of Parallax. How realistic does it look?
   
2. Incorporation of Parallax. How have you used it? Is it just bunged in for the sake of it? Try to include it in the story, and sensibly. There's no use going straight from the African savanna to a jeep in a city!
   
3. Originallity. We want levels, not just vehicles!
   

So why should I enter?

Unfortunately, we don't have a rare prize crown up for grabs... We have something much more exclusive and much more unique! The winner, and two runners up will recieve a Brady Games LittleBigPlanet 2 Walkthrough guide, hand-signed by the molecules! The winner will also recieve a rare LBPBlogger T-shirt, and a super-special on-site pin! Please remember on-site pins are different from those in-game.


T-shirt still pending order, if not completed we will try and get a reasonable exchange for a prize.

Sounding interesting! Right, then be sure to pay close attention to the rules. Failure to do so will result in an instant dis-qualification!

The Rules!

1. Only one entry per person! Do not use alternative accounts to post more, we will find out!
   
2. Your vehicle itself cannot move! It's incredibly easy to tell, and you will be dis-qualified.
   
3. No copying! One thing that annoys me more than anything is someone ripping off another persons idea. I will find out. Just don't do it.
   
4. No altering, tweaking, or re-publishing of your level after the deadline. Regardless of what you changed, it's an instant dis-qualification.
   
5. You must be a registered member of LBPBlogger! We may ask for your username if your PSN is different than your display-name here.
   
6. You may work in teams of up to four people, but please delegate one individual to receive the prize. Second and third place do not go to the same team on an entry!
   

How to enter

Finally, the most important part. To enter, simply place the phrase LBPB1 in your entry title. We won't be able to find it otherwise!

Also, it must be published before the deadline.

I have a question, Can you work in teams for this contest or is it individually?

Spike, like all contests i presume, you can work with any amount of people, but there will only be one person who gets the prize. Can any of the admins verify this please!

I think we will say up to four people, but only one person will win the prize (but all will get the pin)

Yep, I'll specify that again in the post. You should organize that and be careful, sometime's people who help think they'll be getting the same prize!

When you say that vehicle can't move, do you mean like even it's wheels (if it has them), can't roll? I may enter this contest if I will have enough time, and as writing this I got another question to ask. Can there be other vehicles that actually can move (to make some gameplay)?

Yes along as the main vehicle doesnt move position

You can have multiple vehicles, but remember we're focusing on the one with parallax. Obviously if the others work with the game-play that will be in your favour too.

Can we have a first level that is a cutscene with the parallax vehicle and then have a sub-level with the actual parallax vehicle gameplay?
